Program Details

Our Computer Technology programs offer you flexible options of study based on your career goals, whether you're seeking a two-year direct entry into a tech career, a letter of recognition for study, a one-year certificate, or courses that transfer easily to a four-year institution.

Our online courses provide you with flexibility, yet we offer a personal touch by giving you access to faculty members and tutors at your local campus when help is needed. You'll also find opportunities for real-world experiences by working with outside clients, businesses, and internships.

Our two-year Associate Degree in Computer Technology offers you four options of study:

Cybersecurity: This option instructs you on how to set up and maintain local, wide area and wireless networks, while you learn the fundamentals of information assurance or network security and administration.

Programming:  This option provides you the skills needed to develop software applications learning the latest programming languages such as PHP, Visual Basic, and Java.

Technical Support: This option teaches you the necessary “soft” skills to work in customer service, along with the technical expertise to troubleshoot and diagnose computer issues.

Web Development:  This option gives you the design skills and programming expertise you need to develop web sites using HTML, cascading style sheets (CSS), and advanced server side technologies.

And our transfer programs in Secure Computing and Information Systems give you the opportunity to begin your studies at Allegany College of Maryland before you transfer to another institution to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems and Secure Computing and Information Assurance.

In addition, our Computer Technology program offers three, one-year certificate programs. These certificate programs can help you develop skills and experiences necessary for a particular job or allow for advancement in a career in which you are already employed. 


One year-certificate programs include:

Applications User Specialist

This certificate program is designed to acquaint the student with computer applications. The training will provide the student with a working knowledge of the latest software applications.

Cybersecurity One-Year Career Program

This certificate program is designed to prepare students for a career in cybersecurity, information assurance or network security and administration.

Technical Support One-Year Career Program

Technical Support and Help Desk operations are an important part of computer operations in almost every company and organization today. Students will examine general technical support concepts, responsibilities and customer service skills. Students will troubleshoot, analyze, identify and diagnose errors, using established processes and procedures.

ACM also offers a Letter of Recognition in Web Page Development. 

A Letter of Recognition (LOR) gives students the opportunity to enhance their computer skills and expand their career opportunities in the area of web page development. Students can also start their educational journey with a Letter of Recognition.  A LOR gives students a chance to explore the possibility of continuing on to earn their one-year certificate or two-year degree.
