Why did you choose your major? I chose Massage Therapy because I believe in holistic health and the body’s ability
to heal itself. Growing up, I saw older family members struggle with pain, and I knew
I wanted to help people find relief and improve their quality of life.
What made you choose Allegany College of Maryland? I chose ACM because it offered the Massage Therapy program along with the opportunity
to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree.
How has your experience been at ACM? My experience has been life-changing. Returning to school later in life was intimidating,
but my professors and classmates offered encouragement and support every step of the
way. I’ve gained valuable skills, confidence, and meaningful connections that I will
carry with me beyond graduation.
Why would you recommend Allegany College of Maryland to future students? ACM meets students where they are. Whether you’re fresh out of high school or returning
to school after many years, ACM provides resources, guidance, and a supportive community
that makes success possible.
Did you apply for scholarships? Yes, I did. Scholarships have been a tremendous help, and I appreciate that ACM makes
these opportunities accessible to all students.
Are you working while attending college? Yes, I’ve balanced school with work and life responsibilities. While it hasn’t always
been easy, it has taught me resilience, time management, and the value of staying
committed to my goals.
What motivates you, and why? I am motivated by the desire to help people. Knowing that I can make a real difference
in someone’s life keeps me focused and inspired to keep learning and growing.
What are some challenges you did/have encountered as a college student? Balancing online and in-person classes with everyday responsibilities has been a challenge,
especially while learning new technology and rebuilding study habits after time away
from school. At first, it felt overwhelming, but each hurdle taught me patience, resilience,
and the confidence that I can keep pushing forward no matter the obstacles.
Returning to school later in life has been a challenge—I had to rebuild study habits,
adjust to new technology, and balance responsibilities. But those challenges made
me stronger and more determined.
What advice would you give future college students? Don’t let age, background, or circumstances hold you back. Stay consistent, ask for
help when you need it, and believe in yourself. The journey may have challenges, but
it is absolutely worth it.
When did/will you graduate, and what were/are your plans after college? I will graduate in May of 2026. My goal is to combine Massage Therapy with cosmetology
and eventually work in holistic health settings, spas, or even on cruise ships, where
I can serve and connect with people from diverse communities.
