Name: Braeden Appleman Major: General Studies Year: 2017 Current Position: Director of Creative Services - Altoona Curve
Q & A
Why did you choose your major? I chose General studies because I wanted to complete my general education courses
to later transfer to IUP to pursue Communications Media Production. ACM made it easy
and affordable to complete these courses and worked diligently with me to make sure
I was taking the classes I needed to make my credits transfer.
What made you choose Allegany College of Maryland? I chose ACM because of the affordability initially. Once I started attending, I realized
it was a university setting that helped me thrive. The small class sizes made it easy
to build a personal relationship with my professors. I was an individual student rather
than a name on a piece of paper.
What was your overall experience at ACM? My experience at ACM was amazing. The helpful and friendly staff/students I met over
my two years at ACM will stick with me for the rest of my life. It felt as if I was
a part of a big family and everyone was willing to help or ask for help if need be.
Why would you recommend Allegany College of Maryland to future students? I’d recommend it to anyone I know. The small classes and affordability for new college
students make you feel welcome and eases you into the college experience rather than
make you feel as if you’re lost in the first year of school. The professors are always
ready to answer a question or spend additional time with you if you need assistance.
Now that you’ve been through the college process, what advice would you give yourself
if you could go back and do this again? If I could go back and do it again I would get more involved with the university.
I don’t believe I wasted my time focusing on classes but getting involved with an
honor society or student-run clubs would have only added to my experience.
What are your plans post-college? I am currently employed with the Altoona Curve baseball team as the Director of Creative
Services. It is my responsibility to make graphics, animations, and videos for the
videoboard that fans see on game day. I also am the director of the MiLB broadcast,
directing a team of 8-9 production employees to ensure that we are producing a clean
and watchable show.
