Name: Abbey Kerns Major: : Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Class of: 2019
Q & A
Why did you choose this major? I’ve always loved baking, but I also wanted to know how the business works and how
I could one day own my own bakery, which is why a double major was such a good choice
for me.
What made you choose Allegany College of Maryland? My mom went to ACM when I was in high school, she actually went to the Culinary Café
for nutrition, so she told me how amazing it was here.
How has your experience been at ACM? My experience has been amazing, I started off with online classes going after a business
degree, which was great, but not exactly what I wanted and with the help of my English
teacher and advisor I decided to change majors and even double major. Once I changed
my major and stared to attend the Culinary Café I had felt so complete in my choice
and determined to learn everything I possibly could, and with the help of Deb Swope
that’s exactly what I did. And now I’m leaving with two associate degrees and so much
knowledge about everything from baking to the real life business knowledge.
Why would you recommend Allegany College of Maryland to future students? I would recommend ACM to everyone because of the dedication the faculty has to their
students. I have always had the help I need from all of my instructors.
Now that you’ve been through the college process, what advice would you give yourself
if you could go back and do this again? I would tell myself that you’re not alone and there are a lot of people there backing
you up.
What is your plans post college? I hope to eventually go on and get my bachelor’s degree and to one day become a baking
instructor.
Give me one word that best describes your experience at Allegany College of Maryland? Life-changing
