Our History
Allegany College of Maryland, the community's college in Allegany County and serving
Western Maryland and the surrounding region, was founded in 1961. In fall 1996, with
the College's role in the region continuing to expand, the College was renamed Allegany
College of Maryland to reflect changes in its mission.
The Allegany College of Maryland Foundation was established in 1982 with the purpose
of receiving private gifts, bequests, and donations, and to account for, manage, and
help appreciate monies or property submitted to the Foundation or College. The Foundation
Board of Directors is composed of individuals who represent positive leadership and
community influence and who have expressed an interest and desire to use their influence
on behalf of the College through the Foundation.
