CUMBERLAND, Md. (Sept. 19, 2024)— Allegany College of Maryland is offering a four-day Introduction to Massage Therapy class beginning October 31. The class is a one-credit course, and enrollment is limited to 16 students. The class will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1, and again from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, and Sunday, November 3. Scholarships are available through the ACM Foundation to reduce or eliminate tuition and material costs. Students may enroll in the course by contacting Kirsten Hansen, the college’s massage therapy program director. Hansen can be reached by calling 301-784-5191 or emailing her.
Anyone with an interest in massage therapy is encouraged to register. Students who successfully complete the fall one-credit class may enroll in the full massage therapy program that begins next August.
The program is driven by demand.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of massage therapists
is expected to grow 18% from 2023-2033. This equates to an average of 22,800 job openings
for massage therapists each year.
