Hands-on Forestry Field Day, Arbor Day Planting at ACM on April 26

Turn a Love of the Outdoors into a Career at ACM 

Cumberland, MD (April 20, 2023) – Allegany College of Maryland’s Forestry Department invites anyone considering a career in forest technology to attend a Forestry Field Day from 12-3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26th. This hands-on event is open to prospective students, their parents and current students. Attendees will meet Forestry instructors, staff and current forest technology students. 

Registration begins at 12 p.m. at the Technology Building followed by a campus tour and 40-minute mini-sessions in knot typing and tree climbing, tree identification (dendrology) and drone flying. Refreshments will be provided. Attendees may collect stamps for their participation in each activity for a chance to win prizes. Allegany College of Maryland’s Forest Technology program is one of only 25 programs in North America accredited by the Society of American Foresters. It is the only SAF-accredited Forest Technology Program in Maryland. 

Arbor Day Tree Planting 
ACM’s annual Arbor Day observance begins at 12 p.m. in the upper parking lot. Attendees will plant 14 trees. A brief history of Arbor Day, presentation of the college’s Tree Campus Higher Education recognition, and Maryland Department of Natural Resources tree planting demonstration provided. All are invited to attend.
