CUMBERLAND, Md. (Sept. 29, 2023) – The Community College Humanities Association’s (CCHA) annual literary magazine competition yielded wins for Allegany College of Maryland’s Expressions and four of the student contributors. The 2023 Expressions student literary magazine placed second in the Eastern Division. Four ACM students, Fatima Drammeh, Jolene DePiro-Walters, Drake Rose and Ashley Rose Sileo, received individual awards in three categories, also in the Eastern Division.
The Expressions student literary magazine celebrates the original works of ACM students.
The 2023 edition has 51 examples of original essays, fiction, poetry, artwork and
photography by 38 students within its 92 pages. Its introduction was composed by Donna
J. Morgan, who returned as student editor for a second year. Tino Wilfong, an associate
professor of English, served as faculty editor. Heather Greise, associate professor
of Academic Development, was the assistant editor for poetry. A team of advisors and
an editorial board helped with the selection process. Shannon Burnside, a graphic
designer at ACM, designed the publication.
Student contributors to the 2023 Expressions included the following students: Ciara

ACM has competed in CCHA’s annual literary magazine competition for nearly three decades.
The Expressions magazine is compiled and submitted to CCHA’s annual student literary
magazine competition each spring. ACM competes in the Eastern Division, which includes Connecticut, Washington DC, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine,
New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Puerto
Rico.
