BEVAGNA RECEIVES STUDENTACCESS SCHOLARSHIP AT ACM
Student Mixes Passion for Tech and Culinary Arts

CUMBERLAND, Md. (June 14, 2023) – Allegany College of Maryland Culinary Arts and Multimedia Technology student Daniel Bevagna of Cumberland recently received a $500 StudentAccess scholarship from Heilberg Consulting, Inc. This national award recognizes students for their ability to overcome adversity to pursue their academic goals.

All award winners must receive services from TRiO, a federal outreach and student services program that provides assistance to individuals from challenging backgrounds. Bevagna is a participant in ACM’s Pathways for Success Program, a TRiO Student Support Services project, which works to increase retention, grade point averages and graduation/transfer rates of students who are either first-generation, income eligible or have a documented disability.

“ACM Pathways for Success helps me a lot with my studies,” said Bevagna. There are times when I require additional help or tutoring for my classes and Pathways provides that for me. It is also a very warm and welcoming place to go on a stressful day.”

"The Pathways for Success Program is so proud of the hard work Daniel has put into his time at Allegany College of Maryland. He has been a joy in our program and utilizes all we have to offer,” said Tara DeVore, director of ACM’s Pathways for Success, TRiO/Student Support Services. “Daniel’s determination and ability to overcome any hurdle placed in his path made him the perfect recipient for this award."

A native of New York City, Bevagna chose his majors from his early fascination with computers, technology and gaming. He has since paired that love with his interest in the culinary arts.

“I would like to exploit both my degrees, in that I would like to begin by garnering experience in the hospitality industry while simultaneously applying my multimedia knowledge to monetize social media,” he said.

Bevagna is grateful to his Pathways for Success Program mentor RC Cofield who nominated him for the scholarship, as well as his academic advisor Dr. June Bracken, ACM’s director of Academic Access and Disability Resources.

“I would like to thank all my professors, tutors and support staff,” he added.
