ACM NURSE MANAGED WELLNESS CLINIC OFFERS FLU SHOTS, SCREENINGS


CUMBERLAND, Md. (Nov. 1, 2021) – The Nurse Managed Wellness Clinic at Allegany College of Maryland is offering low-cost flu shots to the public and its college community. Individuals may email or call 301-784-5670 to schedule their shot. The flu vaccines, priced at $20, are administered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by ACM’s nursing students.

The NMWC offers Hepatitis B, MMR (measles, mumps and rubella), and TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccines by appointment. Fee range from $60 to $90 depending on the immunization type. The Nurse Managed Wellness Clinics accepts payment by cash, check, or credit card at the time of service. 

From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on November 8, the NMWC will host both cholesterol and diabetes screenings and education sessions. The cholesterol screening requires a 15-hour fast and no caffeine and has a fee of $20. No fast is required for the diabetes Hemoglobin A1c screening. It has an associated fee of $30. Additionally, the Nurse Managed Wellness Clinic offers blood pressure, anemia and cardiovascular screenings as well as physicals, sports physicals and blood titers. 

NMWC services are provided by a team of ACM students who are training to become healthcare professionals under the direction of a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Funding for the Nurse Managed Wellness Clinic is provided through the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission and the Maryland Higher Education Commission Nurse Support Program- II Continuation Grant #18-301. Allegany College of Maryland also offers a Dental Hygiene Clinic and a Massage Therapy Clinic which are open to the public. These clinics restart in the spring.
