ADDITIONAL FEDERAL STUDENT AID AVAILABLE FOR FALL SEMESTER
CUMBERLAND, Md. (June 8, 2021) – Allegany College of Maryland will make available student aid for new and current part and full-time students for the fall 2021 semester through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III.
Students who have completed the 2021-2022 FAFSA® and who are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant will automatically receive the HEERF additional funding. The deadline for completing the 2021-22 academic year FAFSA® form is 10:59 p.m. on June 30, 2022.
Students who’ve experienced a personal or family hardship because of the COVID-19 pandemic may request additional HEERF III funding. This includes students who plan to reside in ACM’s on-campus housing complex, Willowbrook Woods. Examples of pandemic-associated hardships include a lack of technology, internet connectivity, or course materials; loss of employment, healthcare, or childcare; personal or family financial hardships, food insecurity; housing disruption; and/or caring for a sick family member. An online application is available at allegany.edu/heerfaward.
HEERF III awards are not based on one’s grade point average or current income, and students do not repay these federal funds. New or current students with questions are asked to contact ACM’s Financial Aid Office at 301-784-5213 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
HEERF III was authorized by the American Rescue Plan, Public Law 117-2 that was signed into law in March. It provides $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure that learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Institutions must use at least 50% of their allocations “to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student's cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care).”
The college will use some additional HEERF funds to promote instructional delivery, and health and safety measures.
