Gifts to the Somerset County Campus Foundation

The Somerset County Campus Foundation strives to ensure that high quality post-secondary education opportunities are geographically, academically, and financially accessible to all interested students in Somerset County and the surrounding area. Since 1989, the Somerset County Campus has grown to serve 1 in every 5  citizens of the county. A gift given to the Foundation allows the Foundation to continue growing the physical space of the campus, to increase the number of scholarships available for deserving students, and to acquire science, computer, and educational equipment necessary for effective instruction.

In 1995, the Somerset County Campus Foundation raised $1.4 million to renovate and furnish the original educational facility situated along Glades Pike in Somerset, PA. In 1999, the Foundation purchased this building which includes classrooms, computer labs, a medical arts lab, distance learning facilities, a student lounge, faculty offices, administrative offices, and the Somerset County Federated Library. The Foundation continued to acquire additional resources for future campus growth by purchasing 44 acres of land in 1997.

In addition to providing space for post-secondary education, the Foundation has been committed to assisting financially deserving students with scholarship support. Recognizing that more than 80% of students are first in their families to attend college and over 60% of students come from low-income households, the Somerset County Campus Foundation determined that providing scholarship support to students would be an on-going activity. Since 1996, the Foundation has provided more than $400,000 in scholarship support to students attending the Somerset County Campus.

A unique partnership with Somerset County government allowed agricultural agencies to rent space in the first floor of the academic facility while the College houses classrooms, science, nursing, and computer laboratories, and office space on the second level of the building. Some of the funding for this project was generated from a low-interest loan that will be repaid by the lease payments received from the agricultural agencies.

The Somerset County Campus Foundation, individuals, businesses, and foundations committed over $579,000 to complete Partner's Hall which opened to students in January 2006 and houses science, health, and technology facilities.

Over the years the Foundation has provided much support to establish and develop the Somerset County Campus into a local post-secondary site that serves more than 700 students per semester. The tremendous growth of the campus has proven that students want to benefit from the local educational opportunities provided at the campus. But this growth, in turn, created a challenge for the Foundation. With the current student enrollment, space at the current facility was maximized. In order to continue the tradition of local, high quality education and to ensure that every interested resident will have the opportunity to attend college locally, the Somerset County Campus will be renovating our existing Founder's Hall, which is the oldest building on campus. This renovation will allow the college to offer new programs to students and allow the structure to operate in a more energy efficient way.

The Foundation invites you to have an impact on the lives of students by making a contribution to the Somerset County Campus Foundation. If you would like to make a gift to the Foundation, then please consider these gift options:
