Mission, Vision & Goals


The Western Maryland IT Center of Excellence links regional Information Technology industry leaders with economic development leaders to encourage business retention, expansion, and the attraction of new business within the IT sector in Western Maryland. Both job readiness and incumbent IT training as well as the overarching goal to present Allegany County as "Technology Ready" is the main focus of the Center. The Center is an entity where both potential employers and employees can connect, learn more about Allegany County's  technology preparedness, gain the IT education they need to be competitive, and explore professional development and further training options available locally.  The Center is also a collaborative hub for existing IT employers and will deliver professional development opportunities by convening and development cutting edge technology lectures, industry leader forums, and information sharing. 


The Western Maryland IT Center of Excellence strives to instill a high level of interest in Information Technology business development in Western Maryland while educating a local workforce to meet the demands of IT business retention, expansion, and attraction.

Two Year Goals

1. Support regional IT employers and enable them to grow/gain new contracts through the infusion of incumbent worker training.

2. Support current education system (K-22) through the development of STEM workshops at the public school level, comprehensive industry credential training programs at the non-credit level, and  development of articulation agreements and succinct career pathways at the undergraduate and graduate degree level.

3. Attract new business in the Information Technology sector to Western Maryland, creating more IT jobs and encouraging positive economic growth.
