History - Area of Concentration (AOC)
Do you wonder how events from the past effect the world today? Are you interested in gaining perspective on what tomorrow will be like? If so, Allegany College of Maryland's History program may help you unlock the events of the past as you write your own future.
Our History program focuses on the study and interpretation of human events, from the analysis of political, social, and economic aspects of society, to the study of cultural and intellectual movements. As a History program student, you'll discover human existence from the first millennium B.C. to the current time.
Our program, which includes online courses, prepares you to transfer to four-year institutions. In addition to your coursework, you'll bring history to life through trips to historical sites in Washington, D.C.
Although our program is appropriate for students intending to pursue a bachelor's degree in history, it is also great preparation for numerous careers and fields of study beyond the traditional history fields.
As a History program student, you'll expand your knowledge through a variety of challenging courses, including:

- History I and II
- Contemporary World History
- Local History
- History Reading Project
