CUMBERLAND, Md. (Aug. 13, 2021) – Starting Aug. 16, Allegany College of Maryland will require everyone to mask up indoors in the presence of others regardless of their vaccination status at all ACM locations.
“We have the power to end this fight against COVID-19 by working together. If we all give a little to gain a lot, we move one step closer to that goal,” said Cynthia Bambara, president of the college. “Indoor masking is the right thing to do to protect one another this semester.”
The change in policy was necessitated by surge in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant and made in accordance with CDC guidance for regions with higher rates of community transmission and lower levels of COVID-19 vaccination among vaccine-eligible children and adults. Students, employees, contractors and visitors are required to wear cloth or disposable face masks appropriately. ACM expects to revisit its masking mandate at the close of the fall semester.
“Our students have a better chance of reaching their academic goals on-time and on-budget if we can keep our campuses and education sites fully open and operational,” said Bambara.
Allegany College of Maryland recommends that students and employees protect themselves from the Delta variant by getting fully vaccinated. The college is hosting on-site vaccination clinics and offering incentive programs for vaccinated students ranging from a $100 Campus Store gift card to use online or in person to the chance to win $500.
