STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL AID BEGINNING OCT. 1

CUMBERLAND, Md. (Sept. 22, 2021) – Allegany College of Maryland is encouraging high school seniors and prospective students to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA for the 2022-2023 academic year. The application opens on Oct. 1 at studentaid.gov. The FAFSA is used by colleges and universities of all sizes to administer financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships, work-study jobs and loans. Completing the FAFSA is a relatively quick and easy process.

Students applying or enrolled at ACM are encouraged to complete their FAFSA, no matter their family income. There is no income cut-off to qualify for federal student aid, and many factors including year in school and family size are considered. The FAFSA application offers a tutorial and online help for students and parents. Students who are unable to complete their application may meet one-on-one with an ACM financial aid expert.

The college recommends that students and their families take advantage of Financial Awareness Counseling offered through the Federal Student Aid website. You conduct research when you buy a house or a car. It’s the same thing with financial aid; you need to know what you’re getting and what to expect,” said Vicki Smith, director of Student Financial Aid Programs at ACM. “It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete the online counseling session. Reducing your financial stress can be key to staying on track to graduate and pursue your goals.”

Located in the College Center, Allegany College of Maryland’s Student Financial Aid Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For immediate questions or to schedule an in-person or a virtual meeting with an ACM financial aid expert, call 301-784-5213 or email studentfinancialaid@allegany.edu
