CUMBERLAND, Md. (July 13, 2020) – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently informed Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) that Casey White, Wil Brauer, Xavier Michaels, MacKenzie Stotler, and Barry "O'Bray" Rufus will receive All-Academic Student-Athletes Awards.
White, a freshman baseball player, made the All-Academic First Team. Brauer and Michaels, both freshmen soccer players, and Stotler, a freshman softball player, were named to the All-Academic Second Team. Rufus, a sophomore basketball player, made the All-Academic Third Team.
Student-athletes are eligible to earn academic honors by achieving an overall grade point average of 3.60 or higher for the 2019-20 academic year. To make the NJCAA All-Academic First Team, a student-athlete must earn a 4.00 GPA, the Second Team requires a 3.80 to 3.99, and the Third Team necessitates a 3.60 to 3.79.
"NJCAA student-athletes proved that no obstacle is too difficult to overcome," stated NJCAA President & CEO Dr. Christopher Parker. "These difficulties pushed our student-athletes to the limit this year, but the opportunity to overcome these challenges presented itself and our student-athletes flourished academically. The association commends all individuals for their continued success on the playing surfaces and in the classrooms."
“Despite unprecedented challenges this spring, our student-athletes showed true determination and academic excellence. We’re proud of their achievements and hope to see many of these names again on next year’s list,” said Tommie Reams, ACM’s Athletics director.
Nationally 9,555 student-athletes garnered All-Academic recognition for achieving a GPA above 3.6. The NJCAA has been annually recognizing the academic success of its student-athletes since 1983.
