English Tudor Dynasty History (C/S038)

'The Six Wives of Henry VIII'

In this class, students will study the character of Henry VIII, the dynastic and political pressures which caused Henry VIII to marry six times, and the women whom he chose to share his throne. We will meet Catharine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Katherine Parr, learn their stories and try to understand why each of them agreed to become Queen Consort of England's most misunderstood monarch. We will come to understand what effect each of Henry's marriages had on England and Europe, and the legacies which each of his wives left to the world. Along the way, students will hear music of the period, view garb and armor in the style of 16th century Europe, and learn the fates of each of Henry's wives, only one of which lived a happy and fulfilled life. Participants in this class will receive an admission to: "O Death, Rock Me Asleep: The Last Hours of Anne Boleyn" featuring Ellen McDaniel Weissler as Anne Boleyn either Saturday April 5 or Sunday April 6.
