Drawing for the Advanced - Lessons from the Masters (C/S182)

In this course, students will learn the theory, practices and essential techniques of freehand observational drawing. Some topics include a variety of approaches in learning beginning lines, drawing after casts, proportions, forming shapes, drawing from plates, the illusion of the third dimension on a flat surface, and light and shadows. Students will need to purchase the book Classical Drawing Atelier by Juliette Aristides, a contemporary guide to traditional studio drawing. "Drawing is the most basic passageway though which you can access the power of art to express profound universal ideas, feelings, beliefs and truths. Your work, whether drawing, painting, or sculpture- will stand only if it is constructed on a solid foundation. " (Fred Ross, Chairman, Art Renewal Center). Prior knowledge of drawing and drawing skills could be a great advantage when taking this class.
