Singin' in the Rain
Singin' in the Rain is the hit 1952 American musical comedy film directed and choreographed and starring Gene Kelly. It also stars Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. The film offers a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood, with the three stars portraying performers caught up in the transition from silent films to "talkies." It is now frequently described as one of the best musicals ever made, topping the American Film Institute's 100 Years of Musicals list, and ranking fifth in its updated list of the greatest American films.
Casablanca is a 1942 American romantic drama film starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid; and features Claude Rains, Conrad Veidt, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, and Dooley Wilson. Set during World War II, it focuses on a man torn between, in the words of one character, "love and virtue." Casablanca won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. And the film has consistently ranked near the top of lists of the greatest films of all time.
Holiday Inn is a 1942 American musical film directed by Mark Sandrich and starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. With music by Irving Berlin, the film has twelve songs written expressly for the film, the most notable being "White Christmas". The film received an Academy Award for Best Original Song (Irving Berlin for "White Christmas"), as well as Academy Award nominations for Best Score (Robert Emmett Dolan) and Best Original Story (Irving Berlin).
All movies will be shown in the Robert S. Zimmer Theatre of the student center of Allegany College of Maryland. $5 advanced ticket sales include preshow lecture and popcorn.
