Movie Musical History: Holidays in Hollywood (C/S046)In this class, Students will view such musical and non-musical films as "Miracle on 34th Street," "Holiday Inn," "White Christmas," "The Bishop's Wife," "Scrooge," "A Christmas Carol," "It's a Wonderful Life," "The Man I Love," and "Christmas in Connecticut," and will learn their backstage stories, how the studios worked with the holiday season to take advantage of their holiday themes, and why these movies are still holiday favorites today. Students will learn the history and evolution of holiday movies illustrated by anecdotes, photos, and analysis of those particular movies. How the genre reflected the political, social, economic and moral climate set the historical context of each era will also be discussed. Includes one admission to Holiday Inn, a cinematic experience, on November 16, 2013.
