Clinician Self-Care (HSP 550)Clinicians who work intensely with trauma and grief witness deep emotional and physical wounds through client narratives. The intensity of each case and the level of presence and attention required can drain clinicians of energy, wearing away emotional boundaries and distorting insights. Without renewal clinicians experience burn-out, emotional drain, physically over-stressed, and intuitively sapped. The efficacy and joy of being truly present and authentic with each client can be revitalized through creative work not only with clients but especially for clinicians. This training demonstrates ways to shift reflection on countertransference through narrative practices and creativity, grounding and attending to the clinician as a whole person. Specific exercises will help stimulate new connections to self, access rich insights, break stifling patterns that block creativity, and increase mindfulness of countertransference. Our goal is to explore creative approaches to revitalization and bring a sense of restoration back to clients. Approved for social workers, professional counselors, addiction counselors, psychologists for 6 CEUs.
