Introduction to Group Tourism Careers (PRO955)

Tourism is an increasingly important sector of our regional economy and tour guides and receptives (a tour operator or guide who specializes in incoming visitors) are needed in this area. ACM/CE is pleased to partner with Allegany County Tourism to introduce these exciting career opportunities to you. Our goal for this partnership is to make available a unique apprenticeship style program that will allow you to get real-world receptive/guide experience, without taking on the associated risk or start-up expense. You will begin your journey with experienced receptive and guide, Tiffany Halt. Tiffany, owner of Star Spangled Tours, will provide a comprehensive overview of the tourism industry with an emphasis on group and leisure travel. She will examine the complex role of a tour guide, tour and receptive tour operators, and the group leader. This two-day introductory course provides the foundation for you to consider a career in the field, build on your current position in tourism or event planning, or take the next step and start your own business.

Topics include: Planning and development of group related travel; Itinerary development; Forming regional partnerships; Coordination of tours; Hospitality; Guide service; Tiered pricing; and Opportunities within the local community

Upon completion of this course, interested students will be eligible to enroll in a more in-depth curriculum focused specifically on Allegany County Tourism. Please see PRO956 for details.
