Heroes of the Frontier (C/S193)

Dig out that Coon-skin cap and dust off those cork rifles! This intriguing course taught by Ellen McDaniel Weissler covers such frontier heroes as Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, Davy Crockett, John James Audubon, Sam Houston and the like, and how their actions contributed to the opening of the west to White settlement -- and ended up destroying the very wilderness they loved. We'll study their interaction with the Native American populations, and the dichotomy between their respect for Indian culture and their determination to take lands away from the tribes. An important course for any lover of history!
