Do you wonder if events in the past have anything to do with the world today? Are you interested in understanding what tomorrow will look like? If so, Allegany College of Maryland's History program may help you unlock the events of the past as you write your own future.

Overview

Military, President Kennedy and Statue of LibertyOur Associate's Degree program in History focuses on the study and interpretation of human events, from the analysis of political, social, and economic aspects of society, to the study of cultural and intellectual movements. As a History program student, you'll discover human existence from the first millennium B.C. to the current time.

Our program, which includes online courses, prepares you to transfer to four-year institutions. In addition to your coursework, you'll bring history to life through trips to historical sites in Washington, D.C.  

Although our Associate's Degree in History is appropriate for students intending to pursue a bachelor's degree in history, it is also great preparation for numerous careers and fields of study beyond the traditional history fields.

As a History program student, you'll expand your knowledge through a variety of challenging courses, including:

  • History of Western Civilization I and II
  • History I and II
  • Contemporary World History
  • Local History
  • History Reading Project
