Wheelchair Seating for Function & Positioning/Prevention (CHE 725)

There is an ever growing need for wheelchair use in the United States. Conditions such as CVA, SCI and MS make up 69% of the population with some form of paralysis. In 2011, Baby Boomers started to reach 65 years of age. With the record growth of the geriatric population, estimated 40 million in 2010 and 72.1 million by 2030, clinicians will need to be prepared to meet their unique needs. From this course clinicians will learn the skills to measure and select products that maximize function from a wheelchair level and best prevent secondary complications. Upon completion of this course, participants will take a systematic and comprehensive look at client needs to best choose wheelchair equipment and justify those choices for insurance coverage. Based in science and the “art” of seating for function, participants will be able to help clients achieve their functional goals. Six contact hours for physical and occupational therapists. Open to professionals. For information, call 301-784-5526.
