Therapeutic Application of Iyengar Yoga for Lower Back Pain (CHE373)

This course will examine the rationale and efficacy of the therapeutic application of Iyengar yoga for people with chronic lower back pain. A review of the scientific literature on yoga and low back pain will be presented as well as the results of a pilot study of a 16-week program of Iyengar yoga therapy for chronic low back pain. The principles of the therapeutic application of Iyengar yoga will be covered and the rationale for inclusion of specific postures and props in the protocol. In addition to the didactic presentation of the topic, there will be an opportunity to experience the program first hand. All participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing, allowing them to experience the postures and props.
