Hunter Safety Education- Independent Study (Workbook or Internet) (C/S022)
The Maryland Hunter Safety Education Program offers two programs for Independent Study. The Internet Based Course and Home Based Course (Workbook Study).
Workbook students must register two-weeks prior to class. The workbook students will receive the MD Student Hunter Education Workbook, Student Manual, and MD Hunting & Trapping Guide. Students must have the workbook fully completed before the first day of class (with 10+ hours of self-study). Please remember to bring the workbooks to class as they will be graded. Workbook study pre-registration will close on October 6, 2011.
The internet students will follow the instructions listed below. Students must have the online material fully completed before the first day of class and bring their printed online voucher to class.
The internet course procedures are as follows:

All students must present photo identification at registration and in class. An abbreviated course will be conducted for the first hour. In addition, all students must participate in a walk through hunter education trail. Students will either use the laser shot system or go to a local range to do a walk through trail & shooting. This will take about 2 hours which will finish the training. A written exam of 50 questions will be administered and a passing grade of 80% is required. Upon successful completion and approval of the instructors of the aforementioned, the student will be issued a Certificate of Competency in Firearms & Hunter Education, which allows for the student to purchase a hunting license. In 1977, the Maryland legislature made it mandatory for all first time hunters to complete a hunter education course. MD Natural Resource Police will supply all materials needed for the class.
