Allegany College of Maryland's Spa Management option has been designed to prepare students with theoretical and practical knowledge for employment as a spa supervisor or spa manager or to open their own spa. This option prepares students with knowledge and business skills in accounting and marketing with emphasis on how to recruit, hire and train spa employees. Various types of spas include day, medical, resort, hotel and clubs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the personal service worker industry, which includes the field of spa management, is expected to grow 14-19% from 2008-2018. This indicates an above average growth rate compared to other industries. Spa Management students will complete an internship in an area resort to round-out their training. Additional costs beyond tuition, fees, and books may be incurred. Our Spa Management option will give students the opportunity to learn firsthand the rewarding experience of working in world class spa. Successful completion of this program qualifies a student to apply for an Associate of Applied Science degree in Hospitality Management (Spa Management Option). A Letter of Recognition in Spa Management is also available. The ACM Hospitality Management program has been approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) as a Statewide Designated Program. Maryland residents from counties other than Allegany County who register in this eligible program will be charged the out-of-county tuition rate. However, these students may be eligible to receive reimbursement for a portion of the cost difference between the in-county and out-of-county tuition rates. Funding availability for this program is based on funding from the state of Maryland and is thus subject to change each semester. Some restrictions apply. Please contact the Admissions Office for more information. Spa Management students must maintain the scholastic standards of the college and must achieve a grade of "C" or better in each Hospitality Management, and/or Spa Management course. Students are expected to be well-groomed in compliance with standards of the industry. This is a career program and is designed to enable students to seek employment at the program's completion. Students planning to transfer should consult with their advisor or the Student Success Center regarding specific program and course transfer issues. |
