Trojan Soccer

Allegany College of Maryland has fielded a varsity soccer team since 1969 when the college moved from Frederick Street in Cumberland to its present location on Willowbrook Road.  From 1969 to the present there have been 6 head coaches for the team:  Ken Babcock, who organized the team and coached from 1969-1974;  Steve Bazarnic, who coached the 1974-75 teams; Darrell Blank, who has coached from 1975-2005 and Dr. Ray Kiddy took over the reins in 2006; Keith Eshleman coached from 2008 -2010;  Rick Zimmerman took over in 2011 and is in his third season for the Trojans.

The Trojans participate in the Maryland Junior College (JUCO) League and in Region XX, Division III (no athletic scholarships) of the NJCAA.  Most of the players are recruited from local and area high schools, although many non-local and out-of-state players have contributed over the years.  Although ACM does not have  women's soccer , female players are welcome to try out for the team.

While the Trojans have placed many players on the All-JUCO and All-Region All-Star teams over the years, the 1997  team provided Allegany College of Maryland with it's first soccer All-American  when Chris Young (a former Beall High School standout) was named to the 2d team. 1998 gave ACM its second All-American when Momodou Jallow, from Gambia, Africa, was also voted to the 2d team.

1999 provided another first for Trojan soccer as Collin Sutherland and Mark Miller were chosen for the Academic All-Region XX team and have been nominated for  prestigious Academic All-American honors.  Miller, a two year starter in the goal,  was also voted to the 1st Team NSCAA Mid-East squad.
