Academic Alert

If you are experiencing one or more of these warning signs, you should visit the Student Success Center:

       At risk students who may seek assistance from the academic alert advisor are those who are experiencing concern with grades, family issues, work and school conflicts, time management, or stress related issues. Students who feel that they fall into these categories are encouraged to seek the services of the various components of the advising system. These services include, but are not limited to, visits to academic advisors, conversations with instructors about their concerns with course work, obtaining a tutor, making an appointment with Zealand Associated for "three for free" personal counseling sessions, and visits to the academic alert advisor in the Student Success Center.

       All visits with the academic alert advisor are confidential: no information will be shared with any other area or person without the student's permission or unless it is determined that the student is a threat to him/herself or others.

       Often, many seemingly unimportant issues interfere with a student's ability to perform well academically. Lack of appropriate study skills, stress, test anxiety, family problems, and generalized anxiety are often issues that impact academic achievement.

       The major objective of the Academic Alert Advising System is to identify academically "at risk" students early in the semester before they experience failure. These students are encouraged to self-identify or are referred by their faculty advisor, or their professor. Then they are advised to seek the services of the various components of the advising system. This communication link provides students with a personal contact to academic support services of which they may not be aware. For some students success depends upon this four-way "dialogue" among faculty, student, advisor, and academic alert advisor.
