Offered first and second semesters. Three hours lecture plus three hours laboratory a week. Fee: $55.00, plus deposit for glassware. A study of the fundamental principles of chemistry, including the structure of matter, the periodic table, energy relationships, and the chemistry of some of the common elements and their compounds. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score or grade of “C”
or better in Mathematics 93 or 96. Concurrent registration in Mathematics
102 or Mathematics 119 is strongly encouraged if the student is planning
to take Chemistry 102. Who should take this course Chemistry 101, General Chemistry I, is the first semester of a two-semester sequence in General Chemistry for those who intend to major in the sciences, engineering, or the allied health professions at a senior institution. Math 90, Beginning Algebra, is required for this course. For students planning on taking Chemistry 102, concurrent enrollment in Math 102 or Math 119 is recommended.
