Offered first and second semesters and summer session. Three hours lecture
and three hours The nature and importance of microorganisms, including bacteria, yeasts, molds, viruses, and pathogenic protozoa, are considered in detail. Study of their morphological, physiological, cultural characteristics, and staining methods, leading to their identification. Special attention is given to pathogenic forms and basic aspects of microbiology in relation to man and his environment. Due to the nature of this subject, additional laboratory time is required to complete the laboratory exercises. This normally will occur one or two days each week after the laboratory. Prerequisite: Biological Science 100, or 101, or 102, or Chemistry 100

Who should take this course Students who have had a college-level introductory biology
or chemistry class and either have a personal interest in microbiology,
or are in a degree program that requires microbiology, or plan to transfer
