Scholarships help deserving students continue their education beyond high school, develop to their maximum potential and contribute to society to their greatest degree.

Fortunately, this need is recognized by a growing number of community-minded persons and groups who sponsor student scholarships at Allegany College of Maryland's three campuses.

They recognize that everyone benefits when students have greater access to education, especially the economic wellbeing of a community through a more highly educated and skilled workforce.

This interest in education translates to several hundred scholarships that are awarded each year to students on the basis of criteria determined by the benefactor. These may include:

• Enrollment in a specific curriculum
• Attendance at a given campus
• Residency in a certain geographical area
• Academic merit
• Financial need
