ACM offers a 2-year laboratory technician program. Upon graduation, you will be eligible
to take the certification examination offered by the American Society for Clinical
Pathology (ASCP) to become certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
The 2-year MLT degree at ACM transfers to a 4-year MLS program including online university
programs and traditional, on-campus university programs. Upon completion of a BSD
degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Science, you become eligible to take the next
level of certification examination offered by ASCP which is the Medical Laboratory
Scientist (MLS) category.
Beginning a laboratory career at the associate degree level can be a very economical
way to start a career because many employers have tuition reimbursement benefits to
assist in the cost of continuing an education.
With a bachelor’s degree, you may supervise or manage a laboratory. If you want to
continue climbing the career ladder, you can earn a Master’s degree or even a Doctorate
degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. Advanced degrees can help you move up the career
ladder to be a Laboratory Director (MS or MBA), a consultant to help clinicians select
tests (DCLS), or teach other lab professionals (Master’s, PhD, EdD).
