CIRCULATION POLICIES

Allegany College of Maryland faculty, staff, and students, and other adults in the community
may borrow the following materials:

Books - U.S. Government Publications - Audio Cassettes - Compact Discs - College Catalogs - Pamphlets - Videotapes - Annual Reports - Magazines

The normal borrowing period for most items is two weeks.
Videotapes normally circulate for two days.

High school students may borrow a total of five items.  The student must be accompanied by an adult who will check out the material or present a letter on school stationery signed by an instructor or school librarian who will assume responsibility for material which the student borrows. There must be a statement in the letter that addresses the fact that the instructor will assume responsibility for the material.

Material reserved at the circulation desk by faculty for student use may be classified as closed reserve (library use only), overnight reserve, or two-day reserve.

You are responsible for all library materials checked out with your library card. Please do not lend your library card to others or check out material for other people.

The library card is valid for approximately two years. We will exchange your old card for a new one without fee when it expires.

~ Library Online Catalog ~

The Library Online Catalog displays materials available at the Allegany College of Maryland Library. These include books, magazines, videos, and other non-print materials. Items can be accessed at the main search screen by SUBJECT, TITLE, AUTHOR, SERIES, CALL NUMBER, or NOTES.

Academic Search Premier - Full-text journals, many from 1975 on, in most areas of academic study and general interest

CINAHL - Cumulative Index of Nursing And Allied Health Literature *Indexes authoritative nursing and allied health journals, books, conference proceedings and other publications; provides access to information on biomedicine, consumer health issues, nursing, and allied health issues

Health Source:Academic/Nursing Edition - Full-text of nearly 520 medical & health journals. Coverage of nursing and allied health is particularly strong

Health Source:Consumer Edition -150 full-text journals in the areas of medicine, food science, child care and general health

Business Source Premier - Nearly 1400 full-text business journals, many from 1990 on

ERIC - Key index to research material in all fields of education

Oxford English Dictionary - The authoritative dictionary on the history and usage of the English language

ProQuest Databases - Including major American newspapers, criminal justice periodicals, education journals, and nursing journals.

 

· Full-text articles selected from more than 1200 magazines, newspapers, journals and government publications and links to carefully selected websites.
*Sirs Researcher - Contains articles on general reference, social issues, health, science, and business
*SIRS Government Reporter - Contains historic and government documents, directories and almanacs
*SKS WebSelect Links to web sites for general reference that have been carefully selected on the basis of accuracy, authority, and usefulness.

 

· Viewpoint articles, contextual topic overviews, government and organizational statistics, biographies of social activists, court cases, profiles of government agencies and special interest groups, newspaper and magazines articles, and links to more than 1,400 reviewed and subject-indexed web sites on various social issues.

 

· Explores 'hot' issues in depth. Issues cover such topics as the environment, science, and technology.

 

· Remote access for off-campus users is available through the Maryland Digital Library interface.

National Newspapers - Includes five major newspapers: Christian Science Monitor (1988-current); New York Times (1999-current); Wall Street Journal (1982-current); Washington Post (1987-current); and The Sun (Baltimore) (coverage varies).

Criminal Justice Periodical Index - An essential resource for both students and professionals in any criminal justice field. Coverage: 1981-present.

ProQuest Education Journals - Offering information on hundreds of educational topics, this database covers almost 400 leading journals in the field. Coverage: 1988-present.

ProQuest Nursing Journals - Including leading nursing and related publications, this database is designed to meet the needs of researchers at health-care facilities as well as students enrolled in nursing programs at academic institutions. Coverage: 1988-present.

 

· Photos, text, audio, and graphics from AP (Associated Press)

 

· Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. Provides indexing and abstracting for over 1,600 current nursing and allied health journals and other publications dating back to 1982, and contains over 700,000 records.
· Remote access for off-campus users is available through the Maryland Digital Library interface.

 

In-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine, dating back to 1990. Includes full text for more than 140 publications, including many peer-reviewed journals.

 

· This database provides searches in five major areas:
*News - full-text of today's news, or search back more than 20 years
*Business- full-text company news and financial information
*Legal Research - full-text federal, state & international legal materials
*Medical - full-text and abstracted medical and health information
*Reference - general reference sources
· Not available for off-campus access.

 

· Encyclopedia Britannica, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary & Thesarus, Britannica Web Guide, and Student & Elementary editions of the Britannica.
