WORKSHEETS

We do create worksheets for most classes that we offer in the library. These worksheets give the students the opportunity to put what they have learned to the test, and may be used for credit or extra-credit. The worksheets may be modified to fit specific needs of the class. These can include:

  • Showing the students certain reference sources and how to find and use them
  • Showing students how to use certain databases (specific to your needs)

**Students are not required to fill out a worksheet, if you would rather they not do so**

Information Literacy Defined

The portion of the definition of Information Literacy shown below is taken from the Association of College & Research Libraries Website.

"Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information." An information literate individual is able to:

  • Determine the extent of information needed
  • Access the needed information effectively and efficiently
  • Evaluate information and its sources critically
  • Incorporate selected information into one’s knowledge base
  • Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose
  • Understand the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information, and access and use information ethically and legally "
