As a student at ACM, you can transfer after the end of any semester. Admission to another community college usually requires completing the application process and having copies of your high school and ACM transcripts sent to them. Unless you were admissible as a freshman, four-year colleges and universities require you to have a minimum number of transferable credits and to have a grade point average above a certain level. Generally 24 to 30 credits and a minimum GPA of 2.0 are required. These ranges vary greatly depending upon the competitiveness of the institution. What is the maximum number of credits that will transfer? The maximum number of transferable credits from a Maryland community college to a Maryland public college or university ranges from 60 to 70. Each institution sets their maximum within that range. For example: Frostburg State University will transfer in up to 70 ACM credits, while the University of Maryland, College Park will transfer in up to 60 credits. Non-Maryland school may transfer in 60 or more credits, so check with each one to determine the maximum. Do courses with “D” grades transfer?
Sometimes, courses in which you earned a “D” grade often will transfer to Maryland public institutions and occasionally to other private and/or out-of-state schools. Certain majors may require higher grades to apply to your bachelor degree. I completed several credits at another college. Can you tell me how they will transfer to a different college? In most cases, the answer is no. Contact the college to which you plan to transfer. Are transfer advising services available at the Somerset County and Bedford County Campuses?
