Since 1989, Allegany College of Maryland has
had its own literary magazine, Expressions, which regularly features between
fifty and sixty pages of student art, photography and writing. In 1992 Expressions
was awarded second place in regional competition of two-year college magazines
sponsored by the Community College Association in Philadelphia. All work is
done by students, and the production is supervised by two capable faculty
editors, Mrs. Carolyn Kershaw and Dr. Jack Shreve.
Distinctive essays written by composition students for English 101, 112 and 102 classes here at Allegany College of Maryland form the nucleus of the magazine, with occasional literary and/or term papers which probe a little deeper academically. Student poetry forms another significant part of what we publish in Expressions, and a really unique contribution to our magazine is poetry translated from the Spanish by the Intermediate Spanish classes (Spanish 204).
Enjoy our magazine, but remember, submissions for future issues are limited to students currently enrolled at Allegany College of Maryland.
