ACM now offers ESL (English
as a Second Language) courses.
English 91 English for Speakers of Other Languages I 5 semester hours Offered first and second semesters. Offered in summer session as demand warrants. Five hours lecture and discussion a week. This course is designed for students whose native language is not English, but who have a working knowledge and understanding of the English language. The students will receive integrated instruction in grammar, reading comprehension, and organization of information and will practice these skills by writing grammatically correct sentences within well-organized short paragraphs. Required of all students whose performance on the ESL placement assessment indicates the need. This course does not meet associate degree graduation requirements.
English 94 English for Speakers of Other Languages II 3 semester hours Offered first and second semesters. Offered in summer session as demand warrants. Three hours lecture and discussion a week. This course is designed for students whose native language is not English, but who have a working knowledge and understanding of the English language. Students will concentrate on expressing ideas in increasingly sophisticated paragraphs and short essays that conform to the conventions of Standard English. Required of all students whose performance on the ESL placement assessment indicates the need. This course does not meet associate degree graduation requirements.
