Course Policies

A college student should plan a minimum of two hours of study for each class per week.  The nature of this course necessitates additional lab time to complete course requirements.  For example, it should be noted that a person taking 15 credits during a semester should budget a total of 45 hours for class and study time.

61-102 Document Processing generally meets for 3 clock hours per week in the classroom.  Please plan your study and keyboarding time accordingly.

Academic Dishonesty

Refer to the AC Student Handbook for Student Handbook for the definition of academic dishonesty.  This policy is definitely followed.

Class Participation

All students are required to participate in all activities.  Communication is an important key in learning.  Therefore, it is a two-way process.

Communication is a key element in your success in this course.

Grading*

Grading for this course will consist of five different types of activities.  They include:

1.    Timed Writings:  Timed writings will be automatically recorded with the GDP software.  The grade is based on speed and accuracy.  The grading scale for timed writings will be changed as the semester progresses.  A timing grade scale is attached. (20% of final grade)

2.    Progress Checks:  Progress Checks will be given periodically during the units.  These Progress Checks are graded according to a speed and accuracy scale assigned by the Keyboarding software. Progress Checks are identified in the margins of the textbook. (20% of final grade)

3.    Formatting and Daily Work.  Your instructor will also assign a formatting grade to be averaged with the speed and accuracy grade for your daily production work.  The formatting scale will be on a scale of A=4 (0 or 1 errors), B=3 (2 or 3 errors), C=2 (4 or 5 errors), and D=1 (6 or 7 errors). (35% of final grade)

4.    Techniques:  Based on development of touch-typing techniques, posture, and work habits.  Work habits include the punctuality of completing assignments. (5% of final grade)

5.    Progress/Word Processing Tests:  A progress/word processing test will be given at the end of each Unit.  This test will be graded according to speed, accuracy, and formatting. (20% of final grade)

Grading Scale:

A = 3.5 to 4.0

B = 2.5 to 3.4

C = 1.5 to 2.4

D = 0.8 to 1.4

Extra Credit

Extra credit may be earned by completing additional problems that are assigned identified as extra credit.

Assignment Deadlines

Attached is an Assignment Sheet for the semester.  Assignments are due on a weekly basis.  Assignments must be completed and submitted to the instructor on the assigned day by 11 p.m.  There will be a penalty of 10% per day for late assignments.

If emergencies or problems arise, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor by email or phone.

Communication is required in a timely fashion with the instructor in order for requirements and penalties to be waived.

Exams
