A college student should plan a minimum
of two hours of study for each class per week.
The nature of this course necessitates additional lab time to complete
course requirements. For example, it
should be noted that a person taking 15 credits during a semester should budget
a total of 45 hours for class and study time.
61-101 Beginning Keyboarding meets for 3
clock hours per week in the classroom.
Please plan your study and keyboarding time accordingly.
Refer to the AC Student Handbook for
Student Handbook for the definition of academic dishonesty. This policy is definitely followed.
All
students are required to participate in all activities. Communication is an important key in
learning. Therefore, it is a two-way
process.
Communication is a
key element in your success in this course.
Grading
Grading for this course will consist of
five different types of activities.
They include:
Technique Grade
– Based on development of touch-typing techniques and work habits. Work habits include the punctuality of
completing assignments. (10% of final
grade)
Timed Writings – Instructions in the
textbook and on the GDP software must be followed when timed writings are
submitted. Accuracy and speed are both
part of the grade. The timing scale is attached.
(15% of final grade)
Progress
Checks - Progress Checks will be given periodically
during the units. These Progress Checks
are graded according to a speed and accuracy scale assigned by the Keyboarding
software. Progress Checks are identified
in the margins of the textbook. (20% of
final grade)
Formatting/Daily Work - Your
instructor will also assign a grade to be averaged with the speed and accuracy
grade for your daily production work. Drills and practice problems should be
completed as they are assigned. The
formatting scale will be on a scale of A = 4 (0 or 1 error), B = 3 (2 or 3
errors), C = 2 (4 or 5 errors), and D = 1 (6 or 7 errors). (45% of final grade)
Progress Checks/Tests
– A progress test will be given at the end of each Unit. These tests will be graded according to
speed, accuracy, and formatting assigned by the Keyboarding software. (10% of final grade)
Grading Scale:
A
= 3.5 to 4.0
B
= 2.5 to 3.4
C
= 1.5 to 2.4
D
= 0.8 to 1.4
Extra credit may be earned by
completing problems that are assigned as Optional – Extra credit problems.
If emergencies or problems arise, it is
the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor by email or phone. Communication is
required in a timely fashion with the instructor in order for requirements and
penalties to be waived.
Production measurements as well as
timed writings will be given periodically.
Class
meetings will be scheduled to discuss problems and to answer questions, as
needed. During these meetings, timed
writings will be given. These meetings
will be scheduled only as needed. I will
schedule meetings at all three campuses if needed.
