State University and has advanced training in Complementary and
Integrative Medicine and Science and Mind/Body Medicine at Harvard
Medical School CE.
Michele Beener (Business) Ms. Beener holds a BS in Business Administration and a MS in Business Ethics and Leadership from Duquesne University. She is pursuing a doctoral degree in Education through Liberty University. Ms. Beener has served on the adjunct faculty for over four years and brings ten years of experience in adult education, workforce consulting and academic program development. Currently, she holds the position of Director of Education for Somerset Hospital and Affiliates, where she leads educational programming for the medical staff, community and workforce.
Stacey Boggs (Mathematics) Ms Boggs has an AA from Potomac State in Biology (1987), BA from Frostburg in Physics/Physical Science (1990), M.Ed. from Frostburg in Interdisciplinary Education with a focus in Math (1993). She is currently ABD at West Virginia University in Higher Education Leadership Studies. She taught Biology, Physics, and Math both full and part-time at Potomac State from 1990 to 1995. Ms Boggs also worked with Student Support at Potomac State and Veterans upward bound through Davis & Elkins College. Ms Boggs taught Math part-time at Allegany College beginning in 1997, and has been a full-time faculty since 2001.She has been married 20 years and has four children. She is active in the Keyser Presbyterian Church, American Field Service (AFS) Cultural Exchange Programs, and an active Keyser High School Band Booster.
Patrick Brady (Business) Mr. Brady is a Full Professor at Allegany College of Maryland with 23 years of full-time and part-time teaching experience in the fields of accounting and management. He holds a B.A. in English literature and history from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Frostburg State University In addition, Mr. Brady has 17 years experience with the United States government, several businesses of his own and in private industry, including nearly three years as an accounting manager for Hercules, Incorporated. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Maryland.
Gloria Brooks-Broadwater (Distance Learning) Ms Brooks-Broadwater has a BS and MBA from Frostburg State University has been serving in an administrative capacity for the College for more than 30 years and is currently the Director of Distance Learning and Special Programs. She has been an adjunct faculty member for the last ten years teaching various business courses at both Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State University.
Dennis Buskirk (Computer Science) Mr. Buskirk a graduate of Frostburg State University with an MBA has been teaching for Allegany College in the Computer Science department since 1995. Mr. Buskirk is one of our trailblazers for online teaching and chaired the Online Task Force.

Steve Fairgrieve (Mathematics) Mr. Fairgrieve has a B.S. from Frostburg State University and a M.S. from West Virginia University. He joined the Allegany College of Maryland faculty in 2001.
Paula Fuller (Respiratory Therapy) Ms. Fuller is a Registered Respiratory therapist/clinical instructor in the Respiratory Therapy Department. She graduated from Salisbury State with a BS in Respiratory Therapy and earned a M.Ed. from Frostburg State University in education. She has taught Respiratory classes and clinically instructed in the Western Maryland Health System for the past 15 years.
Jenna Gallion (English/Speech/Reading) Ms. Gallion has a B.S. from Frostburg State University in Speech and Theater and her M.A. from Oklahoma State University in Communication. She has taught in Oklahoma, Japan, and locally at Frostburg State University and Allegany College of Maryland. Ms. Gallion has been a part of Allegany College of Maryland since 2000.
Richard Gudowski (Psychology/Sociology) Dr. Richard Gudowski joined the Allegany College of Maryland staff in June 2001 as an Associate Professor of Social / Behavioral Sciences at the Somerset and Everett campuses in Pennsylvania. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from California Western University, his M.Ed. from the University of Arizona, and his B.A. from Gannon University. He is a Board Certified Fellow & Diplomat with The American Board of Medical Psycho Diagnosticians, is a Member of the American Psychological Association, the Society of Behavioral Medicine, the National Association of Mental Health Administrators, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and many other national organizations.
Merle Helsel (Business) Mr. Helsel is an Associate Professor at Allegany College of Maryland with teaching experience in the fields of business law, accounting, taxation, personal finance and economics. Mr. Helsel graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. degree in Law Enforcement and Corrections and earned a J. D. from the Dickinson School of Law. Mr. Helsel has 20 years experience in the banking industry during which time he served as chief financial officer and, subsequently, president and CEO of a community bank.
Kurt Hoffman (Psychology and Sociology) Mr. Hoffman has been a member of the faculty since 2000 after he moved here from Northern California. He graduated from Sonoma State University with an M.A. in Psychology, and also earned his B.S. from Arizona State University. He teaches Abnormal Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Child Psychology, Psychology of Learning and Teaching, Anthropology, World’s Spiritual Healing Traditions, and the online classes General Psychology and Intro to Sociology. He also facilitates Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Classes and is involved in Faculty Formation.
Thea Hosselrode (Office Technologies) Ms. Hosselrode has a B.S. in Business Education and a M.ED. in Curriculum and Instruction from Frostburg State University. She has been a faculty member at Allegany College of Maryland since 1993 and has been teaching in our Office Technologies Department. She has also taught business communications, business letter writing, speech recognition, taking meeting minutes, resume writing, and telephones for our Continuing Education programs.
Sharon Hott (Psychology) Dr. Hott has an R.N from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing: a B.S. from Concord College; and M.A., EdD.from West Virginia University. She was instrumental in the development of our telecourse program at the College and has taught in our Psychology Department since 1975. Prior to accepting a fulltime teaching position at the College, Dr. Hott was a key member of the administration as Director of Student Services.
James House, Jr. (Communication Arts Technology & Computer Science) Mr. House is a fulltime assistant professor in Communication Arts Technology and Computer Science. He has an A.A. degree in Journalism from Potomac State College and a B.S. degree in both English and Computer Science from Frostburg State University. He is currently working on his Master’s Degree. Before becoming a fulltime instructor, Jim taught graphic design and interactive multimedia part-time at both Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State University. He has over twenty years of experience in public relations and graphic design working for such institutions as Bell Atlantic MSI Corporation, Flight One Recording Studio, and Allegany College of Maryland’s Advancement Department.
Peggy Hughes (Office Technologies) Ms. Hughes serves as Department Chair of our Office Technologies and Medical Assistant divisions on campus and has been a member of our faculty since 1981. She came to us with a BS from Shepherd College in Business and Secondary Education and M.Ed. from Frostburg State University in Education.
Robin Imgrund (Business) Ms. Imgrund who has a BS from Frostburg State University and an MS from the University of Maryland teaches business classes primarily at our Pennsylvania campuses. She is serving this year as the Department Chair for Business Administration. She has taught via distance since 1995, primarily on the interactive systems and has also served as trainer and mentor for other teaching on the system.
Georgia Kreiger (Speech) Dr. Kreiger has a BS in English from Frostburg State University and an MA and PhD in American literature from West Virginia University. She is both a scholarly and creative writer who publishes regularly in both fields. Dr. Kreiger has been a member of ACM’s faculty since 2004.
Ron Krug (Business) has 23 years of full-time college teaching experience. Prior to joining the Allegany College of Maryland business department in 2006, Mr. Krug taught for 15 years at the State University of New York at Oneonta and for six years at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He also spent four years as an adjunct faculty member at the State University of New York at Binghamton. Mr. Krug has a BS from the State University of New York at Old Westbury, an MBA from the State University of New York at Albany, and an MS in Accounting from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland. Mr. Krug has private sector management experience from Eastman Kodak, R.H. Macy and U.S. Silica.
Fran Leibfreid (Nursing) Department Chair for Nursing. Ms. Leibfreid has a B.S.N. from West Virginia University, and a M.Ed from St. Francis College.
Matt Marafino (English) Mr. Marafino is a fulltime assistant professor of English teaching primarily at the Pennsylvania campuses. He has a BA and MA in English Literature from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and also did some doctoral work at the University of Delaware.
Lowell Markey (Criminal Justice) Dr. Markey is a professor of political science and also teaches criminal justice. He has served as a private practice attorney; college and university administrator and is a former law clerk for the Honorable Robert Maxwell, U.S. District Judge, Northern District of West Virginia. He has a bachelors degree in English literature from Lycoming College, a masters degree in social science from the University of Louisville, and a juris doctorate from West Virginia University.
Holly McDonald (Nursing)
Penny McIntyre (Business) Before moving to Pennsylvania, Penny McIntyre had 25 years of experience working at various Human Resource and Training positions while living in Massachusetts. She holds a B.Mus.Ed from the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst, and a Master of Science in Management from Lesley College of
Cambridge Massachusetts. Penny serves as adjunct faculty for the Business
Department at ACofM, and is the Director of McIntyre's Minstrels Studio in
Bedford, Pennsylvania.
Steve Robinett (Computer Science) A graduate from James Madison University with a BA in Music. Mr. Robinett worked as a software engineer for 16 years in the federal government-consulting arena. He has been with Allegany College since 1998 and specializes in Database Design, Linux, C++, and Java programming.
Don Robinson (Mathematics) Mr. Robinson has been employed at the College since 1984. He has a B.S. in mathematics from Frostburg State University and an M.S. in mathematics from West Virginia University. He has also taught at Hampshire High School and Bishop Walsh High School, at Garrett Community College and West Virginia University. Mr. Robinson is credited as one of the trailblazers in online teaching at the College. He was the first to develop an online math course in 1999. Mr. Robinson is currently serving as a "Master Reviewer." for Quality Matters. Don is also an accomplished musician who can often be seen performing at local downtown events.
Javan Scheller (Nursing) Ms. Scheller is a fulltime associate professor in Nursing. She has a BSN from West Virginia University and a MSN from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Prior to accepting her position at the College she taught for 21 years at another nursing program in Pennsylvania.
Carol Shaulis (English) Mrs. Shaulis has been associated with the Somerset Campus of Allegany College of Maryland since its inception in the 1989-90 academic year, as a teacher of the Speech Communication 101 and Introduction to Literature 103 courses. Mrs. Shaulis earned her B.S. and her M. Ed. at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and taught 31 years of senior high English in Somerset County. After sixteen years working part time for ACM in the evenings and summers, adding Freshman English 101, Developmental English 96, Business and Technical English 112, English 102, and some education courses such as Foundations of Education, Philosophy and Practice 201, Career Analysis in Education 100, and Psychology of Learning and Teaching 204 to her instructor’s resume, she was hired full time in June of 2005 to the Pennsylvania Campus faculties as an Assistant Professor of English.
Mark Shore (Mathematics) Dr. Shore is the Division Chair of the Mathematics Department at Allegany College of Maryland. He has a B.S. and a M.S. from Frostburg State University, and earned his Ed.D. from West Virginia University. The two courses that Dr. Shore has developed for the Internet are College Algebra (Math 102) and Elements of Statistics (Math 221). Dr. Shore wrote the textbook for College Algebra course that is on the Web, and also produced the Video CD with the text that includes over 20 hours of instruction, showing how to solve many of the problems in the text. Dr. Shore believes that mathematics must be applied to real- life, and that the learning products he has developed for this course, offers the students a unique opportunity for success. In both the College Algebra and the Statistics course, students use an Excel workbook that Dr. Shore wrote specifically for the course to solve many of the problems.

Kristi Smith (Computer Science) PA Coordinator for Computer Science and Technology, Mrs. Smith has a B.S. and an M.B.A. from Frostburg State University. She has been teaching for Allegany College of Maryland in the Computer Science Department since 2001.
James Stickler (Chemistry) Dr. Stickler is the Chair of the Science Department. He has a B.S. from West Virginia University; MS,. Ph.D. University of Kentucky; B.A. Morris Harvey College; and a C.A.S., West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
Thomas Striplin, MEd, RRT (Associate Professor). Mr. Striplin received his B.S. Degree in Science in Respiratory Therapy from Salisbury State University. He received a Master’s in Education from Frostburg State University. He has taught for the past 19 years for the college. He has additional training and expertise in web page development and design and interactive CD production.
Suzanne Stultz (Art) originally from the Annapolis, Maryland area, Suzanne has a BFA from the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus. She attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in the Master’s of Art Teaching program for half of her Master’s work, relocated to our area and completed her studies at Frostburg State University and holds a Master’s degree in Art Education. At Allegany College of Maryland she has taught for twelve years and is also associated with the educational program at Old Bedford Village in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Suzanne is also a level one instructor and member of the Pennsylvania Therapeutic Ride Association founded at Penn State University.
Charles “Chuck” Ternent (Criminal Justice)
Fred Voss (Criminal Justice) Mr. Voss received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida in Nuclear Engineering and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore. Mr. Voss is admitted to practice in Maryland and is currently the Deputy State’s Attorney for Allegany County where he prosecutes felony cases and other serious crimes. He is also a registered patent attorney. In addition, Mr. Voss is a Commander in the United States Naval Reserve.
Sharon Walker (Nursing) Ms. Walker is a graduate of Penn State University with a BSN in Nursing; she also received her MSN in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. Ms. Walker has 20 years of experience in nursing including medical-surgical, cardiac, ICU/CCU, education, and employee and occupational health. She is board certified in emergency nursing. Sharon has been an instructor of CPR and First Aid since 1992, and a theory and clinical nurse instructor with ACM since 1999.
Joe Weaver (History) Mr. Weaver is a native of Martinsburg, West Virginia. He holds an M.A. in history from West Virginia University and has done extensive additional graduate study in history at that institution. He has taught history at the College since 1971 and teaches all history courses offered at the College. He is the Curator and Vice President of the newly opened Allegany County Museum.
John D. Wendel (Business) Mr. Wendel is President of Mid-Continent Insurance Company, a property/casualty insurance company located in Somerset, PA. He has worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years in a variety of positions. He has an MBA from the University of Miami Florida and has taught business courses since 2001.
Cynthia Whitman (Mathematics) Dr. Whitman has a BS in mathematics from Shippensburg University and an MS in Statistics and a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from Virginia Tech. She teaches mainly at the Pennsylvania campuses, has been employed at the college since 1998, and has taught via the distance learning system since that time. Prior to coming to the college she worked as an engineer for the State of Virginia and for a private engineering firm in Cary, NC.
Trevor Wingard (Criminal Justice)
Cynthia Zumbrun (Office Technologies/Medical Assistant) Mrs. Zumbrun is a registered health information technician with the American Health Information Management Association with 20+ years of experience in medical coding and transcription. She has prior work experience as a coder/supervisor in the Medical Records Department of Sacred Heart Hospital. She also had been a self-employed medical transcriptionist. She has a B.S. in Business Education from FSU and is currently working on her MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with a technology focus.
