TEACHER PREPARATION

Allegany College of Maryland offers four teacher education programs of study.   Each program leads to an associate degree which enables students to transfer to a four-year college or university for the completion of their teacher preparation curriculum.

Allegany College of Maryland ‘s four education programs are Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, the Associate of Arts in Teaching/Elementary, and Secondary Education. These programs have been carefully crafted to provide the student with the foundational content, skills and disposition necessary to a successful career as an education professional.

As an education major at Allegany College of Maryland you will be engaged in a program of study that includes coursework in general education courses, education core courses and/or content specific courses.  In addition, you will be guided in the completion of certain pre-professional activities that are expected of teacher candidates during the first sixty-hours of a teacher preparation program.  Examples of these activities are to begin building a professional teaching portfolio, prepare for the Praxis I Exam, twenty hours of service/work with diverse populations and various field experiences.
