225 Clinical Practice III- 5 semester hours
Offered third semester. Five hours of lecture, demonstration, and campus laboratory a week. Clinical time will total 360 hours. Fee: 65.00.

This course covers airway management, intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB), continuous positive pressure ventilation (CPPV), positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP), continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), and high frequency ventilation therapy. Basic principles of fluidics will also be covered. The course includes a discussion of manometric techniques and applications: arterial pressure, central venous pressure, and Swan-Ganz catheters. The basics of chest tubes will be explained. The student will be oriented to the critical care unit and emergency department. Instruction and clinical
experience in arterial blood collection and pulmonary function testing will be provided. Students must pass a mock entry level exam before moving into next sequence of coursework.

Prerequisite: RT 101, RT 102, RT 190, RT 206, and RT 210. Corequisite: RT 212 and RT 213.
