ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND CRITERIA

High School Graduates

This category includes high school graduates within the last ten years who never attended college and early placement students enrolled as part-time Allegany College students while still attending high school.

These persons must meet the following requirements to apply and be considered for admission:

  1. One year of high school chemistry, biology and algebra (or their equivalent) with a minimum grade of “C” in each course.
  2. Pass the Allegany College Placement Test or successfully complete all remedial level coursework prior to date of program acceptance.
  3. A minimum ACT composite score of 18 with no less than 16 on each section.
  4. A current application to the program postmarked no later than April 30.

Other Applicants

This category includes college students attending Allegany College of Maryland or other institutions and early placement students at Allegany College of Maryland who are enrolled as a full-time student and who have waived the senior year at high school.

These persons must meet the following requirements to apply and be considered for admission:

  1. Pass the Allegany College Placement Test or successfully complete all remedial level coursework.

  2. A minimum overall college GPA of 2.00 is required; however, students will be evaluated on a competitive basis. (The last class accepted had an average GPA of 3.87).

  3. Successful completion of a minimum of 13 credit hours of
    college level coursework chosen from the following list:

  4. *Math 102 or 105
    *Anatomy and Physiology 201 or 207

    **Two (2) of the following:
    English 101
    Psychology Elective
    Humanities Elective

    3 credits
    4 credits


    3 credits
    3 credits
    3 credits

    A minimum grade of “C” is required in each course.

    *Only college credit earned in the past ten years will be considered.
    **In the event that more than one course from the previous list has been completed, the highest grade earned within the last two years will be used in calculating the GPA.

  5. A current application to the program postmarked no later than May 20.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Individuals who are selected for admission are also required to:

  1. Submit the results of the required physical examination conducted by the student’s family physician at the student’s expense.

  2. Obtain CPR certification before beginning clinical practicum courses.

  3. Background Investigation Report.

*** Students who have a conviction on their record may be ineligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists national registry exam. Students who cannot take this exam will NOT be able to practice as a Radiologic Technologist. For further information please contact the Program Director.


SELECTION CRITERIA

Seventeen (17) students will be selected according to the following list:

High School Students

12% (2 students) based on the criteria

College Students

*47% (8 students) for Cumberland area
clinical training
based on credit hours
and
competitive GPA

*12% (2 students) accepted on a rolling basis (the date of application whereby the student begins taking courses in the Pre-Radiologic Technology curriculum) having completed the coursework and credits.

17% (3 students) for Somerset Hospital clinical training based on the competitive GPA and credit hours.

12% (2 students) for Grant Memorial Hospital clinical training based on the competitive GPA and credit hours.

*In case of a tie first consideration will be given to applicants with the most coursework completed towards general education courses in the Radiologic Technology Program and date of application.
