Program Mission: To provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become radiologic technologists for successful entry in a diverse and global society into the practice of radiology.

PROGRAM GOALS:

  • To graduate students who are competent entry-level Radiologic technologists.

  • To graduate students who will practice effective communication skills.

  • To graduate students who use critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • To graduate students who demonstrate professional and ethical behavior.

  • The program will fulfill the needs of the surrounding health care community.

PROFESSIONAL DESCRIPTION

The radiologic technologist is trained to perform routine radiographic examinations in the areas of fluoroscopy, routine and advance radiography of the chest, abdomen, osseous system, vertebral column, and cranium. This includes working in the radiology department, operating and emergency rooms, and with mobile equipment. This also involves a critical analysis of the radiograph from technical, anatomical, and pathological standards.

Do you wonder how the human body appears under all the skin? Does the functioning of the digestive, urinary and venous systems interest you? Does the use of radiation to examine the body's skeletal system and organs interest you? If so, then the Radiologic Program is for YOU.

The program at Allegany College of Maryland offers the student an Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S.) upon completion. This graduate is then eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT ) and qualified to be a registered radiologic technologist (RT). The RT is a vital member of the health care team, performing a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures which require the application of x-rays and other ionizing radiations.
