OFFICE SYSTEMS SUPPORT CERTIFICATE
AND
BUSINESS OFFICE SUPPORT SPECIALIST CERTIFICATE

  • Would you like to complete your education in a year or less?

 


If so, Office Systems Support, one-year certificate, or Business Office Support
Specialist, one-semester certificate, will help you achieve your goal.

These certificates are designed to prepare students with office and information management skills as well as technology knowledge for office environment. Some of the skills learned and reviewed in these plans of study include:

internal and external communications

software applications

basic accounting

      Microsoft Office

research and document preparation

      Microsoft Outlook

business professionalism and ethics

      QuickBooks

traditional office skills

information management systems

The complete certificate transfers; a student with an Office Systems Support or Business Office Support Specialist certificate may apply it toward a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in Administrative Assistant.

Upon successful completion of the Office Systems program, a student would have the skills necessary to attempt the Microsoft Office Specialist exam in Word.  This exam is used to assess how well individuals know the Microsoft Word software package.

CAREER ADVANCEMENT
Students who complete the Office Systems Support or Business Office Support Specialist certificate will find many opportunities for career advancement. The role of the office assistant is constantly shifting in response to the changing needs of the business world. These valuable employees may advance to various positions including marketing, human resources, research assistant, payroll manager and office manager.  

CERTIFICATIONS
Upon successful completion of the Office Systems Support certificate, a student would have the skills necessary to attempt the Microsoft Office Specialist exam in Word and/or Excel. Students completing the plan of study for the Business Office Support Specialist certificate would have the skills necessary to attempt the Microsoft Office Specialist exam in Word. The exam is used to assess how well individuals know the Microsoft Office software packages. This certification is a globally recognized standard for demonstrating desktop skills. Allegany College of Maryland offers a one-year certificate program in Medical Coding. A medical coder is an integral part of a healthcare team. The coder is responsible for accurately assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures in order to insure proper financial reimbursement from insurance companies and government agencies. As part of the training for Office Systems, will there be an internship?
Upon completion of the Office Systems Support Certificate Program, students will have accumulated 60 hours of internship training in a business office setting. The internship experience is under the supervision of an office manager at the internship site.
