Nursing: The opportunity to last a lifetime

Nursing is a profession that is open to men and women with various career interests. Nurses practice in a variety of settings, in many roles within those settings, and with other health care givers in the health profession.

Today’s nurse not only provides care and comfort to patients and their families, but also takes an active role in the health promotion and disease prevention of those same patients.

Our programs prepare nurses to meet the challenges of today’s health care industry and lay the foundation to rise to future challenges as new knowledge and technologies occur.

At Allegany College of Maryland, we offer a ladder program. After completion of the first semester of the nursing program, students are eligible for certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant (CNA or GNA). After completing the 1st year of the program and a 5 week summer course, (on the main Cumberland campus) students are eligible for the NCLEXPN or to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, (LPN). This program can be completed in approximately 12 months. Completing the final year of the nursing program enables the graduate to apply for the NCLEX-RN or licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).

All of the programs are designed to enable students to seek employment at the programs completion. The programs are offered on the main campus in Cumberland Maryland (Day, Evening and Accelerated), or at either of our branch campuses in Somerset, Pennsylvania or Bedford, Pennsylvania.
