PROFESSIONAL DESCRIPTION

These programs at Allegany College of Maryland are designed for the student wanting to obtain technical skills in a field and enter the job market quickly or for students wanting to gain entry into an allied health program at the college. These certificate programs offer numerous options that include: Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Aide, and Pharmacy Technician.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

After completion of a program, the following job opportunities may be available:

  • Pharmacy Technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy
  • Geriatric Aide in a hospital or long term care facility
  • Nursing Assistant in hospitals, doctor's offices, clinics, or home care.
  • Phlebotomy Technician in a hospital or clinic setting

PROGRAM AFFILIATIONS

Students spend varied clinical/lab hours, depending on the concentration area, in campus laboratories, area pharmacies, nursing homes, and hospitals. The clinical site will be determined by which area of concentration the student has chosen.


CERTIFICATIONS

Nursing Assistant - Maryland Board of Nursing Certification
Geriatric Aide - state certification mandatory
Phlebotomy Technician - national certification optional
EKG Technician - national certification optional
Pharmacy Technician - state registration required
